Typewriter Emergencies Poetry Contest
Typewriter Emergencies is hosting its first poetry contest. Typewriter Emergencies is a journal of Furry Literature that publishes work focusing on anthropomorphic animals, articles on furry writing and publishing, reviews of furry work in the fandom, and poetry. Poets can submit a poem using their experiences with the furry fandom, convention experiences, online interactions, what “furry” means to them, etc. OR a poet can submit a poem that features anthropomorphic animals. Anthropomorphism is defined as giving human characteristics or behavior to an object or animal.
Length and Style: Poems can not be longer than 2 pages single spaced. We have no restrictions on form. Get creative, get experimental. Send us your free verse, formal verse, micro poetry, found poetry, etc.
We will only review previously unpublished material. A poem is considered published if it has appeared in a literary magazine (online or print), anthology (a collection of work from multiple authors), or a chapbook/full collection published by a small press. Self-Publishing is not considered as previously published (meaning if you have your poem on your blog, social media, FurAffinity, DeviantArt, or Self-Published collection/chapbook, then you can submit it).
Simultaneous Submissions are fine. You are responsible for informing us if your poem has been accepted elsewhere.
You will retain ownership and rights to your poem. Weasel Press only asks for the rights to publish your poem on our blog. If you need your poem taken down at any time, contact us.
Typewriter Emergencies will not tolerate any positive depictions of rape, homophobia, transphobia, racism, etc.
Poets who are affiliated with Weasel Press and its projects (Vagabonds: Anthology of the Mad Ones, Typewriter Emergencies, The Haunted Traveler, Degenerates: Voices for Peace, Open Mind, Ordinary Madness, etc.) are not eligible to submit. Meaning, if you have worked for Weasel Press or are currently working with Weasel Press as an Editor, Proofreader, or Submission Committee Member, then you cannot submit to this contest.
Poets can submit up to 3 poems via Submittable. You must use a single submission form. If you use more than one submission form, we will review your first and disregard the rest. The form will allow up to 3 documents, DOC or DOCX.
We will not accept poems through email.
There is no fee to submit.
