I recently received a complimentary copy of Bawdy and Soul by Jane Wenninger in return for an honest review. “The Rev” and I have been bumping into each other at the same writing communities for about a year now, and I have had the pleasure of experiencing her work in the past.
I was pretty eager to dive into this collection of work. Bawdy and Soul is a great book of poetry and prose, filled with good laughs and some quirky stories regarding faith and family. It’s a book that could probably touch a few people through its lighthearted content, even those who are seeking spiritual guidance through another person’s experience. Wenninger’s writing is charismatic and heartwarming.
Was there anything to dislike about the book? While reading, I put my personal beliefs aside regarding faith as “The Rev” and I don’t necessarily see eye to eye. Her faith makes her strong, and I got a little smile out of the more religious-based poems. Bawdy and Soul isn’t a full sermon at church. It’s good natured. It can and probably will touch you in some way. The book is just the right amount of soul, and I’m happy to have had the chance to experience it.
You can grab a copy of this collection through Amazon!
