when i said i had a husband
the wrinkles around his mouth pulled backwards
like puppet strings without control
crows feet disappeared when his eyes formed marbles
he hid behind the veil of his smoker’s cough
fingers fidgeting around his mouth
as he stumbled, it’s okay, i have friends who are gay
when the last word dove into air
his feet spun his body
into the next open conversation
