it’s so amusing how we use god for our hatred

how we tie his hands to his mouth

so we can speak through him

don’t piss off the fundamentalists

they got a right to be disgusted at us

as we are disgusted with them

using misinterpreted scriptures to back fears

of the gays fuckin’ up the country values

of takin’ kids hostage because the big man up top

says it’s alright to kill, beat, murder, rob

your fuckin’ enemy

i wonder if god ever had problems with his son

like normal folks do

i wonder if jesus ever called into heaven

and argued that forgiveness

is the best route for us

while god was punishing some family

just to see how loyal they were

he won’t put you through more than you can handle

but his followers are stubborn

making weapons with scriptures on them

hoping the prayers will sprout up

from the devil’s body every time

a bullet is planted into the sinner

we’re struggling, america

we just don’t want to see it

we’d rather peel back progress

and replace it with a new hymnal
